Looking at the date of my last post ..... I can't believe I've let this much time pass again. Lots of fun things happening though. I went downtown to meet up with a couple of women that I met on my trip to Prague last year. I can't believe it has been almost a year since that trip. I see J & H every couple of months. They are both older and retired but a real source of inspiration to me. Both are widows and very independent - they both had very successful careers and travel a lot - both have the means to do that - a position I hope to be in one day. J decided I reminded her of one of her relatives and so invited Y along for lunch. We got along like a house on fire and now I feel lucky to have a new friend. It is kind of like a fix-up isn't it? I'd much rather be fixed up with a new friend than a perspective date though. We had a great lunch. I spent the rest of the afternoon downtown looking in the shops at the spring clothes.
I've still been running a lot although plagued with hip problems - not sure if it is lingering effects of an old injury or just a weakness in that area. I have decided that I need to work a lot more on strength - I have been continuing with steength training but often focus more on upper body. So I've started a new program to do more lower body work - and I think it is time to start pilates again for core strength. It is hard to do it all, but if I want to keep running (and I do) I am going to have to have a more balanced work-out program.
I am not overweight by any stretch of the imagination but I have to watch my weight these days. I always eat fairly healthy but it seems every few months I let things slip and have to re-make the healthy eating resolution. It is pretty well a pattern with me. So, as per the usual .... I started a new program a few weeks ago. I am finding this one easier though ... not a diet exactly - I am not counting calories. I'm really more concerned with healthy eating - but I am following the program in 'The Eat-Clean Diet' by Tosca Reno. She is a columnist in Oxygen Magazine - a women's fitness magazine that I read regularly. The program is fairly simple - small meals every couple of hours - clean protein (ie - from a low fat source), low GI rated carb and healthy fats in small amounts. I've found it quite easy to give up sugar, junk food and processed food this time around. I am feeling really healthy on this plan. I still eat a lot of food though. I have lost a couple of pounds but that might be more to do with running than the diet. We'll see - I would not mind losing 5 more pounds.
I've also been making some things ...... crocheted a shawl and a sweater - both are quite lovely. I've got another sweater started. I took a beading lesson last year and continue to make myself some necklaces and earrings. This is a fun but expensive hobby. I have a rather large stash of beads now .... I like silver and semi precious stones.
This post seems like a lot of unconnected things .... I wish I had the desire to post daily - then I wouldn't try to cram so many updates into one post .... life is fun and good though and lots of things holding my interest at the moment.
I need to get into different exercises besides running. I love to run, and don't enjoy most of the other things. (even though they would be very good for me) I know you eat fabulous stuff because I read the recipes you post on here!)
