A couple of weeks ago I got really concerned about the number of gym workouts I've been missing. I had to really sit down and look at my schedule and try to figure out how to get back on track. I've always gone to the gym in the evening - except on weekends when I schedule my workouts according to the weather and my mood. I realized that I am just so tired when I leave the office these days - the re-org has put a lot of extra work onto my plate. At the end of the day, the idea of going to the gym is totally unappealing - I want to either go home and relax or do something outside. A couple of weeks ago I decided to try going to the gym in the morning. This was a real adjustment for me since I think if I don't arrive in the office before 7.30, that I am late. The problem with this - I get there at 7.30 and still get scheduled for meetings long after I have put in my hours. For the last couple of weeks, I've gone to the gym in the morning several times a week - this still gets me in the office by 8.30. Guess what? I have been really enjoying these morning workouts. First of all - no sign of the steroid boys at that hour. In fact, no sign of almost everyone - this morning there were 5-6 of us in a huge gym. It was wonderful. They play nice mellow music at that hour. I find it totally relaxing. It also makes me feel free somehow - probably because it is such a departure from my usual routine which is very liberating. The other benefits - I have tons more energy during the dayand my evenings are freed up without leaving me feeling guilty. That and the fact that this is actually getting me back to the gym regularly again.
