I picked up the book 'Take Your Soul To Work' by Tanis Helliwell weeks ago. I haven't taken the time to read it properly yet, rather I keep browsing and reading bits and pieces. I'm really intrigued with the idea of being 'engaged' with my work. I have had many jobs I dislike and unpleasant work environments. I feel quite lucky now to be in a place where I think my boss is a truly good person, I like my co-workers and care a lot about my work. I want to strive to make it even more meaningful. Given the positives already in place, I think the way to go is to deepen my connection to the people around me and keep improving my skills. This book has some interesting ideas about really bringing yourself and your soul into what you do.
Everything depends on the quality of our acts and experiences. A multitude of badly performed actions and of experiences only half-lived exhausts and depletes our being. By doing things badly we make ourselves less real.
- Thomas Merton
Your entry reminds me of my worst flaw - my habit of knowing how i want to live my life and then following up with the words "I'll start tomorrow".
