As I mentioned in this post , I've been experimenting with various healthy and organic options for the last month or so ... a few new ones to weigh in on ...
High Protein (soy bean) pasta - this is a tough go .... it does not look, taste or smell like any kind of regular pasta. It has a strong smell - not exactly bad but I wouldn't say it added to the dish. It cooked really fast and didn't have the same texture. But it wasn't totally awful. For healthy at home meals during the week, I'm willing to get used to this in return for the extra protein and less carbs. I am not following the Atkins diet, nor am I a fan of it, but this pasta is classed as 'Atkins' friendly so my health food grocery tells. me. Happily, I tried the pasta drenched in a vodka sauce that WAS excellent and that made up for the taste of the pasta. I have not had the heart to analyse the sauce for its nuitritional values ... nothing tasting that good can be low in fat though I'm afraid.
Whole Wheat Fig Bars (Organic) - even my older cat, who is a junk food addict, rejected these cookies. They are heavy and not very cookie-like (not much of a treat) Good pre work-out or run snack I imagine. If they were the only thing in the house, and I was hungry I would choose one.
Now - about the junk food loving cat - I don't know why. I allow him a bit of everything I eat though and he comes running whenever he hears anything crunchy. He also loves lettuce so it's not all bad lest you think I am a bad mother. The young cat gives it all a sniff if Teala is interested but that's about it.
